ENMIX PAPER AWARD 2019

It was the fifth time that the ENMIX Paper Award was presented. This award is granted for the best scientific publication of the respective year dealing with nanoporous materials. Particularly preferred are high-level scientific and innovative papers authored by at least two ENMIX partner laboratories. The recipient must be a PhD student or a postdoc from one of the ENMIX partner laboratories.

For the 5th ENMIX Paper Award 2019, four papers have been nominated. A selection committee consisting of the members of the Scientific Committee of the 7th ENMIX Workshop in Rome, namely Dr. D. Akporiaye, Prof. P. Cool, Dr. A. De Stefanis, Prof. N. Kanellopoulos, Prof. E. Klemm, Prof. N. Tušar and Prof. A. Sepúlveda-Escribano. evaluated the papers by independently allocating points according to the criteria mentioned above. The paper with the highest score was selected for the paper award.

The ENMIX Award 2019 goes to Andraž Šuligoj, who is a postdoc in the group of Prof. Nataša Novak Tušar at the National Institute of Chemistry, for his paper entitled

Surface modified titanium dioxide using transition metals : nickel as a winning transition metal for solar light photocatalysis

In the Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2018, 6, 9882.

for highlighting the research of Dr. Andraž Šuligoj, Prof. Dr. Urška Lavrenčič Štangar, Prof. Dr. Nataša Novak Tušar and coauthors from Slovenian research institutions, the National Institute of Chemistry, the University of Ljubljana, the Jožef Stefan Institute and the University of Nova Gorica, as well as of Prof. Dr. Pegie Cool from the University of Antwerp in Belgium.

Surface modified titanium dioxide using transition metals: nickel as a winning transition metal for solar light photocatalysis Ni and Zn provide a winning combination of redox potential and band gap position for TiO2 supported metal-oxo-nanoclusters with enhanced solar-light activity. However, Ni is the only metal, which has a positive eff ect on solar photoactivity in both oxidation and reduction reactions.
